Ana Asensio is a Madrid-born actress, screenwriter, and director who has been based in New York for over two decades.
Trained in theater in Spain and later at institutions such as HB Studio and the Labyrinth Theater Company in New York, she has worked across television, film, and theater in both countries. She has created and starred in three award-winning one-woman shows on the Off- Broadway circuit, which have also been presented internationally.
Her debut feature film, Most Beautiful Island, won the Grand Jury Prize at SXSW and was nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards. It was screened at MoMA and received worldwide distribution. In 2025, she
premiered her second film, La Niña de la Cabra premiered at the Málaga Film Festival and was subsequently released theatrically to strong critical acclaim. The film received the Periferias Award for Best Feature (Portugal) and the ECFA Award for Best Feature (Brussels), and was nominated for Best European Children’s Film 2025.
The film is available on Filmin and Movistar+. Ana will soon appear in an upcoming Netflix comedy alongside Antonio de la Torre and Alexandra Jiménez. She is currently participating as actress in various projects, among them a horror tv series for Meta, and a Spanish thriller alongside Roberto Alamo and Javier Pereira. Asensio is a member of the Lincoln Center Artist Academy, a recipient of the prestigious Cine Reach film grant, and an alumna of the Sundance Institute.
